Club Print Success

We held the annual print competitions this week at Ribblesdale Camera Club and over one hundred prints were entered in the six sections, including the new to us ‘Creative’ section.
Printing is not one of my strengths and I seem to have spent an age fighting the technicalities and vagaries of my Epson R3000 printer. I use a Permajet ink system which may have further complicated things and I have suffered from colour issues, banding, blockages, fading and countless other stuff that got in the way. That is until I bought a Colorimeter second hand on a well-known auction site – I paid £45 rather than the £250 it would cost new. I have now set up my preferred paper – Permajet Oyster – and the results are really pleasing.
Back to the competitions then. I haven’t entered the monthly print competitions for the reasons above but got my act together just in time for the annuals. I entered five of the six categories, ten prints in all which were judged by Nick Hilton of Southport PS. The results and winning images are below, needless to say that I am really grateful for the success and feedback that I received.

  • Colour Open:      1st place with ‘Bad Bad Boys’
  • Mono Open:       1st Place with ‘In the Shadows’
  • Nature:                1st place with ‘Sparrowhawk male’ & 2nd Place with ‘No Weather for Fishing’.
  • Portrait:               1st place with ‘Rock Chique’
  • Creative:              2nd Place with ‘Decay’ & 3rd Place with ‘Cleopatra’s Last…’
  • Record:                No Entry
